ANNE SEARCHES FOR HER BENNY, NELL, LITTLE EVA, SNIFFER & FRIENDS. ALSO OLDER TALENTED YOUNGSTERS TO FORM PART OF THE ADULT COMPANY.
Anne Dalton is searching for two teams of talented youngsters, aged between 8 and 18 years, for a production of her musical version of the Liverpool story of "Her Benny" at the Floral Pavilion New Brighton, Pavilion Theatre Rhyl, and the Civic Theatre Ellesmere Port. This popular show won the International Quest for New Musicals launched from Buxton Opera House by Richard Stilgoe and selected from an initial submission of 491 musicals from across the world by a team of judges which included Cameron MacIntosh and Julian Slade. Since then it has sold out the Liverpool Empire several times and had rave reviews; it has been seen by over one hundred thousand people. The show, adapted from Silas Hocking's much loved novel of Victorian Liverpool has all the ingredients of good family entertainment: memorable solo melodies; powerful chorus numbers; humour, pathos and romance. Young Benny fights poverty, crime and injustice and, against all odds, grows up to find self-respect, love and success.
"The part of Benny is a challenging one", says Anne. "He is honest yet streetwise, tough yet sensitive. The boy who plays him must be natural, confident, move well and have a good singing voice. Stage experience, though useful, is not absolutely vital. His sister, Nell, is fragile and gentle. Girls auditioning for her part must be able to act and sing well and affect an audience. Little Eva's role is that of a wealthy merchant's daughter who befriends the children and eventually falls in love with Benny". Sniffer can be any age (could be a small older child) must be able to act and sing well.
Ensemble parts are available for those aged between 8 and 18 who can act, sing and dance well.
For under 16 year olds there will be 2 matinees so each team will perform 2 nights and 1 matinee and need to be available for Tech rehearsals. Over 16 year olds will be able to take part in all performances.
If you think you will not be available then please DO NOT audition. Rehearsals will be on Sundays and the director expects you to be available during the evenings the week before the show - if you have booked a holiday in that period then please DO NOT AUDITION.
